Formatting Guidelines

The CLRS Journal of Global Justice & Governance (ISSN: 3049-1940) is committed to maintaining the highest academic and publishing standards. Authors must ensure their manuscripts adhere to the following formatting guidelines before submission. Manuscripts that do not comply may be returned for revision before the peer review process.

1. General Manuscript Requirements

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in British English (UK spelling).
  • Font & Size:
    • Main text: Times New Roman, 12-point, justified.
    • Footnotes: Times New Roman, 10-point, justified.
  • Line Spacing:
    • Main text: 1.5 line spacing.
    • Footnotes and block quotations: Single-spaced.
  • Page Layout:
    • Margins: 1-inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
    • Alignment: Fully justified.
    • Page Numbering: Inserted in the bottom right corner of each page.

2. Title & Author Details

  • Title: The manuscript title should be centered, bold, in 14-point Times New Roman, and in title case (capitalize major words).
  • Author Name(s): Below the title, centered, in 12-point Times New Roman.
  • Affiliation & Contact Details:
    • Include author(s)’ institutional affiliation(s), ORCID ID (if available), and email address.
    • This information should appear in an asterisk footnote, marked with * (single asterisk) for the first author and ** (double asterisk) for the second author.

Note: To facilitate the double-blind peer review process, author details should be included only in the cover page, not in the main manuscript file.


3. Abstract & Keywords

  • Abstract: Required for all submissions, placed at the beginning of the manuscript.
    • Word Limit: 250–300 words.
    • Font & Size: Times New Roman, 12-point, single-spaced.
  • Keywords: 4–6 keywords, separated by commas, listed below the abstract.

4. Headings & Subheadings

The journal follows a structured heading system:

4.1. Main Headings (First-Level)

  • Bold, Title Case, 14-point font, Left-aligned.
  • Numbered as 1., 2., 3., etc.

4.2. Subheadings (Second-Level)

  • Bold, Title Case, 12-point font, Left-aligned.
  • Numbered as 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.

4.3. Sub-subheadings (Third-Level)

  • Italics, Title Case, 12-point font, Left-aligned.
  • Numbered as 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, etc.

5. Citations & Referencing Style

The journal follows the Bluebook 21st Edition for legal references. Authors must use footnotes, not in-text citations.

Footnote Formatting

  • Font & Size: Times New Roman, 10-point.
  • Spacing: Single-spaced, justified.
  • Placement: Footnotes should appear at the bottom of the page, numbered consecutively throughout the manuscript.

6. Quotations

  • Short quotations (fewer than 40 words) should be integrated into the text with double quotation marks.
  • Long quotations (40+ words) should be formatted as block quotes, indented 1 cm from the left margin, without quotation marks, in 10-point font, and single-spaced.

7. Tables & Figures

  • Tables and figures should be numbered sequentially (e.g., Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, Figure 2).
  • Titles should be placed above the table/figure, in bold.
  • Source notes (if applicable) should be placed below the table/figure in 10-point font.

8. Submission Guidelines

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • The file name should follow the format: [Author Last Name]_[Short Title].docx (e.g., Smith_HumanRightsLaw.docx).
  • Authors must attach a separate cover page with their full name, affiliation, and contact details.

9. Ethical Compliance

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished work and should not be under review elsewhere.
  • Plagiarism checks will be conducted via Turnitin/iThenticate, and any manuscript exceeding 10% similarity (excluding references) will be rejected.
  • Authors must disclose conflicts of interest and ensure proper research ethics compliance.
