Archiving Policy

The CLRS Journal of Global Justice & Governance (ISSN: 3049-1940), published by the Centre for Legal Research and Studies, is a diamond open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing legal scholarship in global justice and global governance. As part of our commitment to ensuring the enduring availability and integrity of our published content, this Archiving Policy outlines the measures we take to preserve our articles for future generations of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners. This policy aligns with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and supports the journal’s mission to foster a robust and accessible global legal discourse.

  1. Purpose of Archiving

The journal recognizes the importance of preserving its scholarly record to:

  • Guarantee long-term access to research on global justice and global governance, even in the event of technological or organizational changes.
  • Uphold the principles of transparency and accountability inherent in effective governance.
  • Support the global academic community by ensuring that our contributions remain available for citation, reference, and further study.
  1. Digital Preservation Strategies

To ensure the permanence of our content, the journal employs the following archiving mechanisms:

  1. Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs)
    • Every published article is assigned a unique DOI through our membership with CrossRef. This ensures persistent identification and accessibility, linking each article to a stable online location regardless of changes to the journal’s website.
  2. Journal Website Repository
    • All issues, including current and archived content, are hosted on our official website under the "Issues" and "Archives" sections. Articles are stored in PDF format, freely accessible as part of our diamond open-access model, and maintained by the Centre for Legal Research and Studies.
  3. Institutional Backup
    • The Centre for Legal Research and Studies maintains secure digital backups of all published content on its servers. These backups are regularly updated and protected against data loss to ensure continuity.
  4. Third-Party Archiving (Planned)
    • The journal is actively exploring partnerships with recognized digital preservation systems, such as LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS), or institutional repositories (e.g., university libraries or national archives). Once implemented, these systems will provide additional layers of redundancy and global access. Updates on third-party archiving will be posted here as they become available.
  1. Content Accessibility
  • Open Access Commitment: As a diamond open-access journal, all archived content is freely available without subscription or paywalls, ensuring equitable access worldwide in line with global justice principles.
  • Preservation of Retracted or Corrected Content: Articles subject to retraction or correction remain in the archive with appropriate notations (e.g., watermarks or linked notices), as outlined in our Retractions & Corrections policy, to maintain the scholarly record’s integrity.
  1. Continuity Plan

In the unlikely event that the journal ceases publication or the Centre for Legal Research and Studies can no longer maintain the website:

  • Existing content will remain accessible via CrossRef DOIs, which link to archived versions.
  • The journal will transfer its digital archive to a designated third-party repository or institutional partner to ensure uninterrupted access. Details of any such transition will be communicated to readers and authors via the journal’s website and email notifications.
  1. Compliance and Standards

This archiving policy adheres to:

  • COPE Guidelines: Ensuring long-term preservation as a core practice of ethical publishing.
  • Scopus Expectations: Supporting content permanence and discoverability for indexing purposes.
  • CrossRef Standards: Leveraging DOIs for persistent linking and metadata preservation.
